HELP SAVE THE OLD FULTON FISH MARKET AND GIVE NEW AMSTERDAM MARKET A PERMANENT HOME!
The New York City Council is now debating the future of the South Street Seaport and its public assets, including the Fulton Fish Market. We are calling on all supporters to:
1) Sign the Save Our Seaport Coalition petition and help spread the word!
2) Write, email, or call Speaker Quinn, Council Member Chin, and your local Council. Member instructions are here.
3) Attend the City Council Hearing on the morning of Thursday March 14 (at City Hall or nearby). If you can attend please let us know, rsvp@newamsterdammarket.org and we will send further information as it becomes available.
Since 2005, New Amsterdam Market has advocated the adaptive reuse of the Fulton Fish Market in Lower Manhattan. We envision the city-owned "Tin Building" and "New Market Building" revived as wholesale and retail public market and food hub promoting responsible agriculture, regional economies, and fair trade. After seven years of promoting this vision by holding an outdoor market fronting these historic structures we have incubated a community of entrepreneurs dedicated to our values and to creating a meaningful and compelling public space. But we will be forced to grow the market at another location if the Fish Market site is lost to commercial development.
